805 Capital Street in Yankton, SD

The building that now houses our facility has been a mainstay of the community since the early 1900's, when it was constructed as the boiler house for the former Yankton College campus. The building's position alongside the railroad tracks allowed for trains to conveniently dump coal into the basement, where steam pipes carried the heat underground to the college buildings. Eventually, this heating method became obsolete, and Yankton College sold the building to private investors. The building remained vacant for several years before Yankton County purchased the property in 2000, renovated it for an ambulance facility, and we moved from our previous location at city hall in March of 2001. Some of the original remnants are still present in the building, including some of the steam pipes and the base of the 12-foot diameter chimney in the basement.
