EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

FULL-TIME PARAMEDIC

Yankton County EMS staffs two Advanced Life Support ambulances 24/7. Each ambulance staffs one full-time paramedic and one part-time employee ranging in certification as an EMT, Advanced EMT, EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic. We work 12-hour shifts, changing at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Our primary responsibility is responding to 911 calls.
Yankton County EMS responds to around 2,000 calls for service per year, covering a 500 square mile service area in Yankton County and South Yankton, Nebraska with a coverage area population of nearly 25,000 residents.
We transport patients to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital (ASHH) in Yankton, a five-story facility that features a 10-bed emergency department with 24-hour physician care, a 10-bed ICU, a diagnostic cath lab, pharmacy and dedicated med/surg patient floor.
Yankton County EMS also provides inter-facility transfers from ASHH to larger facilities in Sioux Falls and Sioux City when we are available, but 911 calls are always our priority.
Here are the minimum requirements for the position:
  1. NREMT Paramedic certification
  2. ACLS & PALS certifications
  3. AHS BLS CPR certification
  4. Valid driver's license
  5. Eligible to obtain SDBMOE ALS license

Here are some of the job benefits:
  1. Minimum starting salary of $16.05 per hour ($45,000+ per year with scheduled overtime and holiday pay) with job anniversary pay increases every year for 12 years, plus annual COLA adjustment
  2. $5.00 per hour while on call which changes to hourly pay when called in
  3. Employee health insurance (employee currently pays less than $50 per month for a single coverage co-pay plan while the single coverage HSA plan premium is covered by Yankton County)
  4. Optional vision, dental and supplemental insurance
  5. Two weeks paid vacation and sick leave, both accruing monthly
  6. South Dakota Retirement System with Yankton County matching the employee's monthly contribution
  7. Uniforms supplied, including a bi-annual allowance for footwear
  8. Scheduled for 36 or 48 hour work weeks with hourly pay, either 1st crew or 2nd crew, plus 24 hours of 2nd crew on-call coverage each week
  9. Work every third weekend, with two 3-day weekends off in between (Saturday through Monday)

PART-TIME PARAMEDIC

Yankton County EMS is always looking to hire and expand our roster of part-time paramedics.
Currently, our part-time paramedics submit their availability on a monthly basis and are scheduled on a 1st crew or 2nd crew shift with a full-time paramedic, and they also cover open full-time paramedic shifts for vacation and sick leave.
Starting pay for part-time paramedics is $16.42 per hour. On-call pay is $5.00 per hour, which changes to hourly pay when called in. We work 12-hour shifts, changing at 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. 
Our 1st crew staff stays together, either in the office building or in the ambulance, while 2nd crew is only required to be in the city limits while on call.

EMR Job Description
​Part-time positions account for nearly 80% of our EMS staff. We encourage any EMR, EMT or Advanced EMT to apply with us. Typically we hire new employees two or three times per year, but that can vary according to needs.
